DC favours innovative measures
Mir TariqBandipora, June 09: The deputy commissioner, Bandipora on Monday said that innovative measures have to be taken to get rid of drug abuse.
Concerned over the rise of drug abuse in Bandipora, a meeting of district officers was held in the meeting Hall in DC office Bandipora. The meeting was chaired by DC Bandipora Sheikh Mushtaq. Speaking on the occasion DC Bandipora Sheikh Mushtaq said, “Drug trafficking and addiction is a big menace, which should be eradicated by the roots from the society”. He said that innovative measures have to be taken to eradicate this evil. “The drug abuse cannot be eliminated or controlled by using old measures,” he asserted.DC further said that the awareness campaign against drug addiction should not be limited to the schools and colleges. “People on the whole should be involved in these campaigns. It should be made a social movement to eradicate completely drug addiction and it’s trafficking,” said Mushtaq.DC said that a joint and collective movement is must to get rid of the evils, which are spreading fast in our society. “We have recognized victim groups and the action will be taken against those, who are forcing the youth in the drug addiction,” he said.Regretting the role of intellectuals, he said intellectuals, Islamic scholars and Ulemas are not participating in the awareness campaigns. Speaking on the occasion, Magistrate Bandipora, Ghulam Ahmed Khan said, “We have involved all the Numberdars, Village level workers and Imams in the campaign in order to make the masses aware about the evils of drug trafficking and corruption”.
