Revoke order, hold discussions later: MLC
Mir Tariq Bandipore, June 27: Member of Legislative Council (MLC) and senior Peoples Democratic Party leader Nizamuddin Bhat on Friday said that the land transfer order to the Amarnath shrine board should be revoked forthwith and added that the discussion on it can be held later.
Speaking to party delegates in Nishat Park of north Kashmir’s Bandipore district Bhat said, “If the people of the State are not accepting the land transfer decision, it should be revoked forthwith keeping the national interest in mind.” Referring to the Government order on land transfer (Order No. 1184-FST of 2008 dated May 26, 2008 in consonance to Cabinet Decision No 94/ 7 dated may 20, 2008) which was approved by the PDP minister, the MLC said: “It should not be discussed who has passed or signed the order in this prevailing situation. The people are violent. If anyone has committed mistake he should not be let off."Bhat said that the people are against the land transfer order and added that it should be revoked immediately.“PDP being a part of the Government is against the order and demands its cancellation," the MLC said, adding, "We can have discussion on the land transfer later on but keeping the prevailing situation in view, the order should be cancelled.""If Chief Minster Ghulam Nabi Azad does not revoke the order, PDP will withdraw the support from the coalition government," Bhat added.“We are with the people of Kashmir, with the Hindu pilgrims (yatris) and other religions, we are no against any parishad or Yatra," he said. Batting for the people of Kashmir, Bhat said Kashmiris are not “religious fighters”. “We believe in religious secularism," Bhat said."Government failed to keep the emotions of Kashmiri people in mind while passing the land transfer order," he said. However people from different walks of the life condemned the MLC’s statement and said that being part of government, he was befooling them."It is just to befool locals here. Why did the PDP leadership ignore the emotions of Kashmir people when the order was passed in the cabinet in presence of PDP ministers," said Nazir Ahmed, Secretary Bandipore Students Fedration (BSF)."PDP is not clear on the land transfer issue. They stick to power and just threaten the government of withdrawing. Both PDP and Congress are responsible for the land transfer," said a local Muhammad Arif, adding, "PDP has failed to explain their position. Now they are trying to divert the intention of the people."A senior citizen Fayaz Ahmed said, "Everyone who is involved in land transfer should be punished and people here should know that the Indian puppets are here to sell Kashmir."
