43 fall ill after inhaling poisonous gas

Bandipora, Jan 30 :At least 43 persons have fallen ill after inhaling deadly poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Around 43 persons including 13 women and 6 children have been admitted in district hospital Bandipora since last week after inhaling CO, which is a poisonous gas.“All the patients admitted in emergency unit of hospital have inhaled CO emitted from coal and wood,” said Dr Haroon of district hospital Bandipora.“Inhaling CO causes headache, vomiting and stomach pain,” he added.“Among 43 patients, 39 are from hilly far flung hamlets. Most of them are illiterate and are unaware about the hazards of carbon monoxide,” CMO Bandipora Ghulam Mohiudin Wani told Rising Kashmir.He said that people in Bandipora purchase hard coal from surrounding army camps.
