Protest against MC Bandipora

Three councilors threaten to resign if things don’t improve
Mir Tariq Bandipora Feb 15:
People here protested against officials of Municipal Council for disposing off sewerage on the main roads and streets. Three councilors have threatened to resign if things don’t improve.
Hundreds of people irrespective of age and sex here took to roads Friday morning to protest against the disposal of sewerage on the roads and streets on ward no.1, 2, 4, 5 and 13, 14.
Raising anti-municipal council slogans, the agitating people protested against the lackadaisical behavior of officials and field workers. They alleged that MC men are disposing off sewerage on the roads, thus hampering free movement of people.
They demanded immediate disposal and pumping out of unhygienic water from the drains in Bandipora town. Three councilors Abdul Rashid, Muhammad Amin Mir and Abdul Khaliq accompanied the protestors. They threatened that they will resign if things do not improve. “If things don’t improve we will submit our resignations,” they added.
One of the protestor, Zahoor Ahmad Lone said, “MC men are disposing off sewerage on roads. This has damaged the roads as they remain inundated with the overflowing drains. It seems that the field workers are unaware of the problem and as such are not taking steps to correct the fault”.
A deputation of people led by vice chairman Mohammad Sudhar Committee Bandipora, Mohammad Shafi met Tehsildar Bandipora, Abdul Rashid and presented a memorandum to him. A copy of the same was also presented to R&B and PWD Bandipora.
In the memorandum, the officials were told that the municipal committee Bandipora has failed to meet the demands of people. “The municipal area meant for storage and disposal of sewerage has been encroached upon”, said Shafi. They demanded action against persons responsible for it.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, a PWD official admitted that roads in Ward No 1, 3 4 and 5 have been damaged due to overflow of sewerage. “The department will seek damages from the Municipal Committee”.
Chairman Municipal Council Bandipora, Mushtaq Ahmed said “All the field workers were pressed into service to remove snow from the roads. This lead to the present situation.”
He, however, said that a water pump would be used to pump out the sewerage from the roads. “This will be done as soon as possible,” added Mushtaq.
