Safapora residents block highway


Demo for Power

MirTariq Bandipore, Jan 03: People in Safapora Thursday staged protest demonstrations against the erratic power supply in their area and kept PDD officials hostage for sometime before Assistant Superintendent of Police promised to restore power supply within a week.The protestors blocked the Srinagar-Bandipora highway for hours. One of the protestors Majid Ahmed told Rising Kashmir, “Twenty days ago we approached the concerned official but they have failed to solve our problems. Their irresponsible attitude compelled us to take to streets,” he adds.Government had started construction of receiving station at Brapora Mansbal at but the work on the receiving station was stopped creating more problems for the people of Safapora.Superintending Engineer Electrical Baramulla, Noor Din Teli told Rising Kashmir, “The department is putting in efforts to supply power to all connected grids and receiving stations.”Teli said that the people from Safpora had not cleared their electricity bills and as a result of which their connections had been snapped.Amid anti-PDD and anti-government slogans, the protestors disrupted the vehicular traffic creating trouble for the commuters.Meanwhile, additional deputy commissioner Ganderbal and Tehsildar Ganderbal arrived on the spot to pacify the protestors.But the demonstrators kept the officials hostage for sometime before executive engineer PDD and assistant superintendent of police came and promised protestors to solve their problem within a week.
